After having an awesome two weeks in the Greek islands it was time for my liver to go on a holiday and have a well-deserved break. So I embarked on a 3 day DIY juice cleanse !
I seriously debated whether I should go with one of the existing juice cleanses or do my DIY cleanse at home. I have a really good (centrifugal) juicer which helped, and a quite relaxed week at work meaning that I could spend an hour in the morning prepping my juices (because this is how long it actually takes…), so I decided to give it a try.
It was my first juice cleanse and contrary to what I have been hearing about it worked quite well for me: first day was slightly more challenging (with a few headaches and bit of tiredness at night- was actually sleeping from 21.00) but by the end of day 3 I was even considering extending the cleanse for another 2 days: I felt so light, fully energy and having a healthy glow!
As you can imagine I experimented with lots of juices (5-6 a day), so here are a couple of my favourites:
Carrot and Cayenne Boost Juice: this juice is such a delightful change from the green juices you are normally having in cleanse. Spicy and warming it will give you nice afternoon boost.
– a small piece of root ginger
-3 large carrots
-2 parsnips
-1 small lime
-3 celery sticks
-1/2 tsp ground turmeric
– a pinch of cayenne paper
Pinneaple and Mint Lemonade: I seriously loved this one, it’s sweet and sour and utterly refreshing. That’s the first time I also juiced a whole lime and guess what it’s juicing!
-1 pineapple
-2 apples
-a bunch of mint
-1 lime
Optional: kale
Heavy Metal Detox juice: a juice rich in antioxidants to remove the metals we absorb through food, water and skin in our system. And it is delicious too!–
-Half bunch of parsley
-A bunch of coriander
-4 celery sticks
-2 green apples
-1 courgette
-a handful of green grapes
-optional: kale
Warming Beetroot Juice: You cant have a cleanse without a beetroot juice. Packed with folates and Vit C (esp. if you juice the leaves) beetroot is a great addition to a green juice to make it sweeter and more warming. Here is my favourite recipe:
-1 piece of root ginger
-1 apple
-4 small beetroots
-1 small cucumber
-2 carrots
Optional: a fennel bulb
I had a ton of green juices too (really A LOT), but there are abundant green juices recipes online so will skip these.
Would I do a cleanse again: ABSOLUTELY, esp. during spring which is the natural time to rejuvenate and reset your system!
