Nothing can beat the feeling of having an acai bowl under the sun in a beach at Brazil, but at least you can bring a bit more Brazil at your home!
Acai is an indigenous berry commonly found in the rain forests of the Amazon.This antioxidant-rich fruit has been heralded for centuries as a healing, immune-stimulating, energy-boosting fruit. It is rich in antioxidants and specifically anthocyanins that can help the cellular protection system by keeping cells strong against the invasion of free radicals (that make cells oxidize and accelerate ageing). So overall a good food to include more frequently in your diet. It is quite hard to get fresh acai the other side of the Atlantic so I mainly use Acai powder (which you can find in health stores and Amazon), and try to include .in my smoothies or breakfasts. So here is the recipe for a delicious anti-oxidizing breakfast acai bowl:
Ingredients (for one person)
– 1 frozen banana
– 1/2 a cup of blueberries
– 2 medjool dates
– 1 heaped tablespoon of acai powder
– 1 heaped teaspoon of baobab powder (optional)
– Bee pollen, pumpkin seeds and coconut flakes for garnish
Simply place everything into a blender and blend until smooth
