I am sure are all familiar with the 5 a day message: the advice from the World Health Organization, which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day to lower the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
I do believe that 5 a day is understated and we should all aim for a min of 8 portions a day. And that’s not hard taken that a green smoothie like this one can give you 4 portions just on your breakfast, so that you can power-start your day and not worry for the rest of it. This is a recipe I really love and have quite often for breakfast when I feel weaknesses and want an extra boost. The avocado gives this smoothie a velvety creamy texture while the coconut butter (or oil) masks the green flavour, so even if you don’t love veggies you will love this one!
Ingredients
-A bunch of frozen spinach
-A handful of kale
-1 avocado
-a handful of green grapes (any other green fruit would do too like apples or kiwis)
– 2 tbs of oats
-1tbs of coconut butter or oil
-1 date
Mix altogether in a blender and enjoy!
