You sneaky guys … no, it’s not what you’re thinking it is …. This is an amazing app for androids that will help you make cleaner choices in your cosmetics. As I’ve said in the past, the skin is the largest organ of the body that absorbs and deposits any substance we rub on it to our circulatory system. So, if we don’t pay attention to the quality of the cosmetics we use, we burden our body with additional toxins associated with carcinogenesis, endocrinological deregulation, dermatological problems and a lot of other illnesses. The amounts of toxins found in cosmetics may be small, but unfortunately, we use them often, so they accumulate and cause problems. In the last few months, I’ve been trying to clear up my cosmetics cabinet a bit and choose more natural cosmetics. Unfortunately, however, the word natural or organic on a label is not sufficient as there is no strict regulatory framework to protect the consumers. My next step is to read a package’s ingredients. As I am not a chemist, and you need to be a chemist to understand the labels of cosmetics, I just avoid some ingredients I’ve heard are toxic like: parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, fragrance (fragrance is the most insidious word in the ingredients as most toxins are hidden under the generic fragrance claim), EDTA, Ethanolamine (ETA, DEA, MEA, TEA), BHA, BHT, Thimerosal. These are few of the ingredients I try to avoid. I recently discovered this awesome application you can download on your phone and has done all this hard work for you by giving a rating to a wide range of products with regard to their toxicity. Generally, it covers most of the brands sold in the supermarket and to my surprise it also had a few Korres and Apivita products, which I use.
